LAOAG CITY-a locally manufactured surgical mask, safe and durable, ready to expand its market scope with the help of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in the first district.

Armando Q. Ganal, Director of DOST Region 1, said on Thursday that the agency is proud to help local businessmen from Agu town in La Union province to implement innovative startup projects and become the first large-scale manufacturing of surgical masks in Northern Luzon. business.

Produced by ModulHaus Incorporated, owned by Richard S. Chan, the pioneering mask production facility in northern Luzon is equipped with a box of 500 individually packaged masks to protect each user from virus infection.

At present, some government agencies in the region have begun to use locally produced masks. With the aid of 5 million pesos under DOST's Small Business Technology Upgrade Program (SETUP), Ganal shared his excitement on Thursday, saying that the power of science and technology is indeed changing people's lives.

Through the institution’s ongoing SETUP project to provide financial assistance to small and medium-sized enterprises, Chen’s company was able to purchase one automatic mask making machine and two automatic earband applicators, which could produce 739,200 surgical masks per month.

On Thursday, at the official inauguration and launch ceremony of the Barangay San Marcos mask production facility in La Union Agoo, Chen said he thanked DOST for their help to enable them to produce four-layer masks at high speed.

According to Engr. Edison Acosta, the head of DOST La Union, said that locally made masks produced in the province have passed international standards and are currently being commercialized in some areas of the province.

Acosta stated that as DOST’s OneStore digital marketing department provides an e-commerce platform for the high-quality Filipino products of its aided small and medium-sized enterprises, negotiations are currently underway to promote the products to a wider market, not only in the first zone, but also Also to neighboring areas.

"Let's patronize our own products," he said, because he reported that the manufacturer has obtained a business license and product registration certificate from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Since 2016, ModulHaus Inc. has purchased an automated panel saw for the first time, which is used to accurately and quickly cut panels for the production of modular products (such as kitchens).
